"Who can come along to classes?"
In short ANYONE!! We welcome everyone through the doors at all of our Independent venues. We do not discriminate against age, size, weight, fitness levels, etc. If you are willing to come along and try pole fitness, then what are you waiting for? Currently, we have several women in their 50s attending and doing VERY well! All we ask is that you are over 18 years of age. Anyone from 16-18 will require full parental consent and we prefer a parent or guardian to come along to our venues to meet with us prior to attending our fitness classes.
"Why shorts and heels? "
The simple reason is for grip. Bare skin grips the pole better. We are not bothered how your legs look, so don't worry about that. Bare skin makes it easier to master moves on the pole.
We welcome trainers but in short, you get a better workout from heels in terms of muscle definition and toning.
Anything else I should bring?
We also recommend a towel, bottle of water and exercise mat. Each pole has its own towel to wipe down for hygiene reasons. Exercise mat is necessary for our bootcamp aspect!
"Am I expected to dance or perform a routine?"
NO!!!!! We DON'T teach pole dancing, it's Pole Fitness. You will learn the same pole moves that you would anywhere else, but without having to perform any form of dancing, lap, pole or otherwise. We realise that people don't want to be made to feel stupid or inferior, hence why it is just pole fitness. We also make it clear now that there is no removal of clothing (only when you come in and get changed!)
"How long is the class?"
Each session lasts one hour and during this time you will warm up, practise your pole moves then we progress on to our floor work out section. Once completed, you are back on to the poles!! At the end we do a cool down session.
"How many people per class?"
We have 8 poles at Argyle Street, 8 at Maryhill Road, 6 in Cumbernauld, 4 in Helensburgh and 9 in Dundee. At any one time there are NO more than 2 people per pole, giving you ample time to spend perfecting your moves and building your strength and core muscle.
"I'm embarrassed to come along ...HELP!!"
No problem! The most important thing is not to be embarrassed or nervous. Everyone is nervous on their first night as they don't know what is expected of them. Pole fitness is about having fun, laughing, exercising, getting fit and meeting new people.
There are a few people out there that still have a pre-conceived theory that if you do this for fun/fitness, you automatically want to become a dancer....WRONG!! Please don't be misled or put off by others; feel free to call Julie and she will happily discuss any worries/questions you may have.
All the girls that attend class are lovely and friendly, very sociable and EVERYONE encourages you and cheers you on when you master those trickier moves!! We are like one big family here at Independent and you are more than welcome to join us!!!
"Do creams and oils help me grip?"
No, they do the complete opposite. Please avoid applying any creams or lotions at least 24 hours prior to attending classes.
"If I am sick do i lose my class?"
If you are not going to make class for whatever reason all we ask for is a courtesy call/text/email 24 hours notice prior to your attendance. This will ensure you won't lose your class for that week.
